Overview

Stanine scores show how the candidate compares to the rest of the population, with 5 being the average score for the trait. Scores below 5 show the candidate is lower than the average for the trait, while scores higher than 5 show they have more of the trait than is average. The population includes every individual that has completed the psychometric component of the assessment.

How to interpret this chart

  • The 9 boxes in a stanine chart represent different points along a bi-directional scale. It is important to remember that there is no 'good' or 'bad' on a bi-directional scale, only whether the individual is more towards one end or another. In order to calculate a stanine score, the average of a population group is identified, and the candidate is compared to that average. The average for the population is always shown as a 5 in a stanine, with the candidate's score then below, on, or above this average.
  • The candidate description will explain the impact that a candidate's position on a chart for any particular trait will have on their work style.
